Mastering Time Management in the Waxing World: Tips from a Pro

Hello, beautiful people! I'm Libbey Lazarus, and I've been in the beauty industry for over two decades. Today, I'm here to share some wisdom on a topic we all wrestle with - time management. As estheticians, our days can be as unpredictable as the waxing results on a first-timer, but fear not! I've got some tried-and-true tips to help you manage your time like a boss.

1. Audit Your Time

First things first, let's figure out where your time is going. Are you spending too much time on phone calls and not enough on actual waxing? Keeping track of your week can reveal surprising time thieves and show you what's really wax-worthy.

2. Set Task Time Limits

Here’s a game-changer: Assign a specific time slot for each task. It’s like setting a timer for your wax to heat up - it ensures you don’t overdo it. Plan your day the night before, so you're not just winging it.

3. Focus on One Task at a Time

Multitasking in our line of work? A definite no-go. Imagine trying to do a Brazilian while answering emails – messy, right? Stick to one task at a time, and watch your efficiency soar.

4. Streamline Your To-Do List

Overloaded to-do lists are like over-plucked eyebrows - not a good look. Limit yourself to three key tasks per day. This keeps you focused and successful.

5. Ditch Non-Productive Work

If it’s not in your zone of genius (like that tricky sugaring technique you’ve mastered), delegate it. Your time is best spent on what you excel at. Some tasks make you shine brighter than others. Focus on the ones that really highlight your skills and delegate the rest. If you are not good at numbers hire an accountant. It’s about making the biggest impact with your time.

6. Outcome-Oriented Approach

We're in the business of results - whether it's flawless waxing or growing our client base. Keep your eyes on the prize and cut out the fluff. It’s about the perfect finish, not just busy work. Writing down  your goals can be a big help.

7. Time Management Coach

Think of this as having a personal trainer, but for your schedule. A coach can guide you to better manage your time, keeping you on track towards your goals. It can even be a co-worker or friend who can give you a reminder when your time is up for a specific task.

8. Plan Your Week and Day

Take some quiet time to lay out your week. It’s like prepping your work area before a waxing session – it sets you up for success. I cannot stress this enough. Its always good to get to your salon a little early. Then you can handle any unforeseen problems and still stay on schedule.

9. Let Go of Perfectionism

Perfectionism is a big time waster.  Rather than being happy with what they’ve created, people spend hours and sometimes days changing, updating and tweaking things until it is perfect.. It's about making your clients feel great, not getting bogged down in the minutiae.

10. Avoid the Instagram Scroll

Let's face it, we've all fallen victim to the Instagram scroll. It's a major time-suck! To create a distraction-free environment, start by recognizing these little habits that eat up chunks of your valuable time. Turn off those notifications and allocate specific times for social media.

11. Create a Distraction-Free Environment

With so many distractions vying for our attention, it's crucial to eliminate the obvious ones. A cluttered mind or workspace can amplify the feeling of being overwhelmed. Identify your main distractions and tackle them one by one to improve your focus. Put your cell phone in a drawer so you can concentrate.

12. Take Regular Breaks

Taking breaks isn't slacking off; it's a strategy to enhance focus and productivity. Regular breaks keep your energy and motivation high. This ensures you stay on point during your most important tasks, avoiding distractions and burnout.

Wrapping It Up

There you have it, fellow estheticians! Time management isn't just about squeezing more appointments into your day. It's about making each moment count, for you and your clients. Remember, in our line of work, every minute is precious – just like that satisfying feeling of peeling off a perfect wax strip.

Stay smooth and efficient, everyone!

XOXO,
Libbey Lazarus
